Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant
March 2025
For those who serve the Lord Jesus Christ, these words are among the most treasured in the Word of God: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” We serve the Lord because we love Him, because of who He is, because of what He has done, and to be obedient to Him. We need no earthy recognition, awards, or accolades. It will be enough for us to hear his commendation and to receive His rewards.

Matthew chapter 25 records the Parable of the Talents. The master entrusted three of his servants with talents according to their abilities. To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to the third, one. As the story goes, the one with five talents went and traded and made another five. The second one did the same and gained two more. The third, however, buried his talent in the ground. Then the master returned after a long time to evaluate their performance. He commended the first two servants and judged the third for his wickedness and laziness.

The lesson is clear for us: God entrusts us as His servants with time, talents, and treasures that He expects us to use for His glory. We are stewards of all that God has given to us. When we appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ we will receive rewards or suffer loss as a result of our service. Oh, that we will one day hear those glorious words, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”

One of the greatest things about heaven is sharing it with our Lord and our fellow servants of Christ. He made heaven not just for the angels but for the creatures He made in His image. He wants us all to be there to share. Of course, only those who have been born again will be there. One day, all the toil, hard work, pain and effort will be so worthwhile. Just having crowns to lay at His feet will be so awesome!

The great missionary David Livingstone once said, “I place no value on anything I have or may possess, except in relation to the kingdom of God. If anything will advance the interests of the kingdom, it shall be given away or kept, only as by giving or keeping it I shall most promote the glory of Him to whom I owe all my hopes in time or eternity.” Are you willing to be a good and faithful servant in this way? May the Lord help us to have all, give all, and use all for His glory. Only then we will hear those precious words, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
