Blessed Is The Nation Whose God Is The Lord

Of all the nations in the history of the world, both past and present, only ancient Israel has surpassed the United States as the most blessed by the Lord. America was founded and grounded on the Word of God and faith in Jesus Christ. Because of this great foundation, America still exists and prospers to this day. Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as his inheritance.” As believers living in America we are twice blessed, as citizens of heaven and citizens of the United States of America.

America is still a land of freedom, liberty, opportunity, variety, abundance, beauty, and peace. Everywhere we turn we are so incredibly blessed. Oh, that we would thank the Lord in proportion to how much we have been blessed! The wonderful song says, “America, America, God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.”

Sadly, as a nation, we have strayed from the Lord, His Word, and His principles to follow a humanistic, secular, atheistic agenda. A minority of those bent on destroying America are at work both behind the scenes as well as out in the open. America and ancient Israel have so much in common. If America does not repent we will suffer the same fate as Israel.

We need to pray for our nation for a sweeping revival in our day. Someone once said, “America is too young to die.” It is not too late to repent and turn away from our sin to God. If we do, America’s best days can still be ahead of her. If we don’t, we will continue the downward spiral that is leading to utter destruction.

We fear for our nation especially in the light of prophecy where America is nowhere to be found. It is sobering indeed! Alexis de Tocqueville said it best when he realized even at the beginning of our national life, “America is great because America is good. If America ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.” Yes, America is on the brink, and only God can turn this nation around. Thank God for all the Christians and the churches that are standing for the Lord Jesus Christ. We must form a mighty army of prayer warriors to stem the tide of evil all around us. Will we join in the fight? Will we stand up for Christ and the truth? Will we oppose evil and not accept to let our glorious land crumble before our eyes?
