Give Thanks To The Lord
November 2024
It is good to thank the Lord not only on Thanksgiving Day but also every day. He delights to hear our thanksgivings, especially when we are going through difficult times. How easy it is to take the Lord’s blessings for granted! When the Lord allows change in our lives and we experience some loss, do we continue to thank the Lord? Why is it so easy to complain and so hard to give thanks? It is almost impossible to thank the Lord and complain at the same time.
Herein is the key to our lives: to fill our days and nights with thanksgiving so there will not be room for complaining. Giving thanks is the fruit of a Spirit-filled life, and thus, complaining is the fruit of a carnal life. Both take effort, but how much better it is for us and those around us if we are a thankful.
Being thankful can also keep us from being discouraged and turning to our own strength and ability. The songwriter said it well, “Count your blessings, name them one by one; count your many blessing see what God has done.” The more we count our blessings the more we appreciate the Lord and what He given us, and He has given us everything.
A boy was so impressed by the Washington Monument he wanted to buy it. He offered the security guard the dollar that was in his pocket. The security guard responded by saying, “First, you can’t buy this because it is not for sale. Second, you can’t afford if it was. Third, as an American citizen you already own it anyway.” The same can be said about the blessings of God for Christians. First, the blessings of God are not for sale. He offers them freely through Jesus Christ. Second, if they were for sale we could not afford them. Third, as believers, we already own them.
It is good to give thanks to the Lord for He is good and to remember that everything we have is from Him and belongs to Him. Thanksgiving flows from a heart that has been changed by the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord!
